.ro Domain: Romania ccTLD Guide
.ro is the country-code top-level domain for Romania.
Overview
Used by Romanian businesses and individuals, and by foreign companies wanting a Romanian-market address.
The National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest) is the sponsoring organisation for .ro in the IANA record, which gives 26 February 1993 as the creation date. The registry operates as RoTLD and works through accredited registrars, resellers and hosting providers. DNSSEC is supported.
Names can be registered directly under .ro or beneath generic second-level labels such as com.ro and org.ro. Some second-level labels are reserved and carry special rules. Every registration is governed by a registration agreement, and the registry may request further documents or refuse a registration that does not meet its rules.
For disputes the registry has adopted ICANN's Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy, and registrants agree to follow it when they register. The registrant data of natural persons is not displayed in the public WHOIS database, while data of legal persons may be published.
The registry also runs periodic technical checks of delegated name servers (zone checks) and may delete domains that fail to meet its conditions.
Who can register
.ro is open to anyone. Legal persons give a registration number (plus a fiscal code if in the EU), and individuals give an identity document number such as a passport number.
Second-level endings: Also .com.ro, .org.ro.
Rules and prices change. This summary is general information, not legal advice: confirm the current policy with the registry before you buy. The registry's website is www.rotld.ro. The official record for .ro is in the IANA root zone database.
