.cz Domain: Czechia ccTLD Guide
.cz is the country-code top-level domain for the Czechia. The Czech Republic's national extension.
Overview
Czech businesses and individuals use it as the standard local domain, and it is popular for sites aimed at Czech-speaking audiences.
The .cz domain was introduced on 13 January 1993, after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, whose code was .cs. It is run by CZ.NIC, an association that administers the domain and whose website is nic.cz. DNSSEC is supported.
Names are registered directly at the second level, for example example.cz, through accredited registrars. The length limit is 63 characters, and names may contain letters a to z, digits and hyphens. A hyphen cannot be the first or last character, and hyphens cannot occupy both the third and fourth positions.
CZ.NIC has chosen not to offer diacritics under .cz, citing insufficient demand and lower accessibility from abroad. Registrations are therefore limited to plain ASCII characters, and Czech words are normally written without accents.
A newly registered name must be verified by email; unverified domains are suspended and may be deleted by the registry. Registration terms run from 1 to 10 years. The registry reported 1,502,253 domains on 8 August 2025.
