.pe Domain: Peru ccTLD Guide
.pe is the country-code top-level domain for Peru.
Overview
Used by Peruvian businesses, organisations and individuals, and by foreign brands wanting a Peruvian address.
Red Científica Peruana (RCP) has managed .pe since its creation, and the registry operates as PE-NIC. The extension was introduced on 25 November 1991. Until December 2007 names could be registered only at the third level beneath second-level labels; direct second-level registrations such as example.pe began on 8 December 2007.
The open second-level labels are com.pe, net.pe, org.pe and nom.pe, with nom.pe intended for individuals. The labels gob.pe, mil.pe and edu.pe are restricted to Peruvian government bodies, the Peruvian armed forces and educational institutions respectively. Certain words, including names of Peruvian governmental bodies and terms such as nic, whois, punto and www, are reserved.
The registry's rules allow a to z, digits, hyphens and the letters á, é, í, ó, ú and ñ, with names of 1 to 63 characters. A hyphen cannot start or end a name or sit in both the third and fourth positions. One large registrar states that accented names are not offered, so check with your registrar before relying on them.
The registry publishes its own dispute resolution policy rather than relying on the UDRP. A summary of the policy describes a 10-calendar-day opposition period after an application is published, a committee review, and, where both parties have rights, an attempt at an amicable settlement before the matter can go to another forum. The registrant's email address must be verified. There were 140,210 .pe domains on 3 February 2022.
Who can register
Registrars describe .pe as open to everyone, including individuals and organisations, with no stated residency requirement. Government (gob.pe), armed forces (mil.pe) and education (edu.pe) labels are restricted.
Second-level endings: Also .com.pe, .org.pe, .net.pe and others.
Rules and prices change. This summary is general information, not legal advice: confirm the current policy with the registry before you buy. The registry's website is punto.pe. The official record for .pe is in the IANA root zone database.
