THNIC (T.H.NIC Co., Ltd., the corporate arm of the Thai Network Information Center Foundation) administers .th and the extension was introduced on 7 September 1988, making it one of the older Asian country-code domains. The registry publishes its registration policies on its own website, including its dispute policy.

Most names sit under predefined labels: .co.th for commercial entities, .or.th for non-profits, .ac.th for academia, .go.th for government, .mi.th for the military, .net.th for internet providers and .in.th for individuals, companies or organisations. Since 2014 THNIC has also opened second-level registration in periodic rounds, with a reported application fee of 10,000 baht and an annual fee of 100,000 baht.

For .co.th, a company may register only one name per company name or trademark, and the name must match the company or trademark. Registrars say that without a trustee you must show a Thai business licence or Thai trademark; trustee services exist for foreign companies but are non-transferable. THNIC may refuse or revoke domains where it sees unusual registration activity.

The Thai-script extension .ไทย (xn--o3cw4h) was introduced in 2010. Thai second-level .ไทย names are assigned to sites holding .in.th names, while other groups use third-level .ไทย names. In April 2018 there were 68,036 names under .th and 18,633 under .ไทย.

Who can register

Registration is mostly at the third level, and .co.th is for companies only, not individuals, with company documents (or a Thai trademark) that match the requested name. A contact person with a Thai address is expected; foreign companies usually need a trustee service. Individuals use .in.th.
