Used by Indonesian businesses, bloggers and organisations, and by overseas registrants targeting the Indonesian market.

PANDI, the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Administrator, has managed .id since 2007, under authority derived from regulation by Indonesia's communications ministry. It is a not-for-profit body whose membership includes government and internet-community representatives. The domain itself was first registered in February 1993.

Direct registration under .id became generally available on 17 August 2014. Other labels include .co.id for commercial entities, .web.id for informal organisations and personal use, .my.id for personal use, .biz.id for small and medium businesses, .or.id for organisations, .sch.id for schools, .ac.id for higher education, .go.id for government and .desa.id for villages. Government, military and education labels are restricted.

For .co.id, registrars report that the owner must be an Indonesian company or hold, or be applying for, an Indonesian trademark, and must supply a document such as a SIUP, TDP, AKTA or NPWP. Some registrars offer a trustee service for foreign businesses that lack local documents, at extra cost.

PANDI publishes a domain name registration policy (a version 9.0 document was published in 2024). PANDI reported about 819,465 registered domains at 30 November 2023.

  • Make sure you meet the eligibility rules yourself, without relying on a trustee if you can avoid it.
  • Search for trademarks and for the same name in .com.
  • Say the name out loud: will people type it correctly?
