Used by Singapore businesses, organisations and individuals, and by foreign firms with a Singapore-facing operation.

SGNIC administers .sg and, according to a 2002 government press release, was set up in October 1995 to manage Singapore's domain name space. Registrations are sold through accredited registrars; that release set out the accreditation process for registrars to take over registration work from the third quarter of 2002.

Names can be registered directly under .sg or beneath .com.sg, .net.sg and .org.sg, plus .gov.sg and .edu.sg for public bodies and schools. The personal-name .per.sg category was reported as retired in March 2023. Registrars quote letters, digits and hyphens only, 3 to 63 characters, with no IDN support under .sg itself.

Identity checks go through the VerifiedID@SG process, using Singpass for individuals, Corppass for organisations, or an SGNICID for entities with neither. If verification is not completed in time, registrars report that the domain is suspended. Registrars also state that .sg names may not be registered for the purpose of sale or trading, so check this before buying for resale.

The registry applies the Singapore Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy. Two internationalised country-code extensions were registered for Singapore in 2011, .新加坡 for Chinese and .சிங்கப்பூர் for Tamil. Published statistics show about 202,905 registered .sg names in June 2025.

Who can register

A Singapore presence is required: foreign applicants must appoint a local administrative contact (a person with a Singapore NRIC or FIN, or an organisation with a UEN) who verifies the registrant's identity within 21 days. .com.sg is meant for entities registered with ACRA, Enterprise Singapore or a Singapore professional body.

Second-level endings: Also .com.sg, .net.sg, .org.sg, .edu.sg.

Rules and prices change. This summary is general information, not legal advice: confirm the current policy with the registry before you buy. The registry's website is www.sgnic.sg. The official record for .sg is in the IANA root zone database.

  • Search for trademarks and for the same name in .com.
  • Say the name out loud: will people type it correctly?
